Ohio River Greenway/Bikeway Trail Phase 2
Monaca, Pa — The Ohio River Trail Council is pleased to announce the launch of the Ohio River Trail Phase 2 Project study for the Spring of 2015, which includes the design of a 15-mile bikeway beginning at the Sewickley Bridge, Moon Township trekking through Sewickley/Glen Osborne, Edgeworth, Leetsdale, Ambridge, Ambridge-Aliquippa Bridge, Hopewell, Aliquippa, and terminating at the Beaver County Jail, Center Township, Pa. The project traverses the counties of Allegheny and Beaver County.
Mackin Engineering selected as the consultant will provide field review by professional engineers and landscape architects experienced in bikeway, trail and ADA compliance projects. The study will investigate primarily routes along state, county, and local roads to find the most suited, safest and most direct connection for cyclists. The construction of bike lanes along with marking and signing the Ohio River bicycle route will provide wayfinding and safety for cyclists traveling between Ohio and Pennsylvania. The Ohio River Trail will delineate a critical connection to the celebrated Great Allegheny Passage Trail and the C&O Towpath Trail to our nation’s capital in Washington D.C. The design schedule is anticipated to be completed in 6-8 months, and is targeted for completion during year 2015.
